Update Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

Periodically, the VPN client version is updated and the client installed on the computer automatically updates to the latest version. The update is generally seamless, but sometimes problems are encountered. Whenever the automatic update fails, the steps below should be followed to manually complete the installation.


Please follow the steps further below if the following error displays:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the following address:

  2. Enter your email address and password in the Username and Password field highlighted below, then click Login:

  3. You should receive a text message on the same mobile device that you receive text messages to when you normally connect to the VPN. Enter the passcode you receive in the highlighted field below, then click Continue:

  4. You should receive a User Account Control popup requesting administrative credentials to continue. Please click No in this window:

  5. You will be redirected to the main connection page with a countdown displayed. Once this countdown reaches 0, or you click Skip, the installation will restart using Java:

  6. You will be brought to a page stating that the installation is about to begin. Wait for the automatic prompts to follow:

  7. Click Run to run the Java installation:

  8. Click Allow to allow the application to Run:

  9. The downloader should launch, and should install itself automatically within 5 minutes:

  10. Once the installation is complete, you will see the following screen, indicating that you are now connected to the VPN:

  11. You can verify you are connected to the VPN by opening the Cisco AnyConnect icon in the notification tray, and seeing the Lock symbol over the Cisco symbol:
